Matt Murray’s cheating scandal resurfaces as NHL scrutinizes goaltenders’ behavior as unacceptable

Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltender Matt Murray has once again been caught up in the red light of the National Hockey League. From November’s cheating scandal to the recent news, the netminder has not only been in the bad books of the Wild and Devils fans but with the league too.

During Leafs’ game with Minnesota Wild and New Jersey Devils, Murray has been seriously scrutinized for his net behaviors. During their game, the net moved three times, disallowing the Devils 3 goals. The league didn’t take any serious action at that moment, but he has been on their radar.

The disgruntled fans refused to accept the official’s hearing and they took to social media to scrutinize the goaltenders’ behaviors. They called Murray a cheater and asked for serious repercussions. Even coach Freddy Chabot noted that it’s a “trend with that goaltender”.

The incident blew up vastly, and even NHL insider Mike Russo who was critical of Matt Murray was called out by a fan for being sour of the netminder. Wild head coach Dean Evason noted back in November, “100 percent. The second one, for sure, he literally … and Freddy Chabot said it’s a trend with that goaltender.”

“You can’t knock the net off three times and not get anything out of it”. “It doesn’t make any sense. We have offensive time in there and sustained time. We could get more opportunities and all of a sudden it stalled out and momentum’s gone and whatever.”

“I don’t understand it. I don’t. It’s hard to ask them. You don’t want to yell at refs all the time, but it didn’t make any sense how a goaltender could knock it off three times and there’s no repercussion.”

Recently an incident once again poked the hornet’s nest, as it seems the League will be taking action sooner than later. Mike Russo stated that NHL Situation Room caught Toronto’s netminder messing with the net on Sunday night.

For all the angry fans, Russo said that it was not him who is one-sidedly attacking the goaltender, but the league who is displeased with his actions. He further claimed that he himself was present in the situation room when the incident happened.

Then again, it’s also important to note that Murray himself complained to the officials that the net position was not stable on Sunday night. While his concerns about net standing are being taken into consideration, the league has also begun to keep a strict eye on him. If any similar situation arises in the upcoming games, it is possible that the league stands up to take action.
