Chicago Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson is planning to switch things up in front. Forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews will be seen taking the same line along with forward Andreas Athanasiou in a game against the Edmonton Oilers. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 9.30 p.m. E.T. at United Center. The team is now carrying a score of 0-6-1, after losing 7 in a row.

They are currently holding the last stage in the Central Division with 6-11-4. Currently, they are looking for answers which they expect both forwards to give. They are good friends and are well aware of each other strengths and weaknesses. Their pair-up may just bring the miracle that the team desperately needs.

Coach Richardson noted, “It’s been done before, but I haven’t done it, so let’s try it and I think that’s makes the most sense”. “I saw a lot of speed out of both those lines (at practice) and let’s see what they’re going to be able to bring in a game.”

After Sunday’s 7-2 loss to Winnipeg Jets, Jonathan Toews said, “I’m never going to get into the specifics about what’s being said in the locker room”. “But all in all, yeah, I think we all agree that as a group we need to be more mentally prepared, even if there’s nights where, it’s a long season and sometimes you don’t have the energy and you don’t have it.”

“You’ve just got to find ways to play a better team game and keep yourself in games, and sometimes when you work to do that, things start going your way, you get a couple goals, and all of a sudden it gives you that little burst of energy that you’re looking for.”

Since last season, both Patrick Kane and Toews have not played on the same line. Right now, Kane leads the Blackhawks with 16 points, 3 goals, and 13 assists in 21 games. Toews on the other hand holds 8 goals with 13 points. Both of them have quite a bit of history with the team.

They enjoyed the Stanley Cup Championship win in 2010, 2013, and 2015, while standing in the last inch of their 8-year contract signed on July 9, 2014. With the Blackhawks, Kane recorded 1,196 points, 763 assists, and 433 goals, while Toews recorded 865 points, 365 goals, and 500 assists.

Kane commented about playing with Toews, “I mean, we’ve played together before so I kind of know his tendencies of course and what he likes to do out there and where he’s good on the ice”.

“Even with Max, I think we’ve been snake-bitten a little bit. We’ve had some looks, we’ve had some chances, it just hasn’t went in for us so hopefully we can get some bounces and get back on track.”
