Florida Panthers winger Ryan Lomberg chokes Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic in an almost MMA-style move during Game 2 at TD Garden Arena. The scene was almost horrifying as Frederic expressed being unable to “breathe” during their bout.

As of now, NHL has not made any announcements regarding the incident. The video clip of the game gained high social media attention as Bruins fans expressed concern for the player. The incident took place with just 3 seconds remaining in Wednesday’s game that handed the Panthers a 6-3 victory over the Bruins.

The altercation stemmed from the fistfight both players got entangled with. Frederic and Lomberg were engaged in exchanging heated blows prior to falling on the ice. During their fall, Lomberg ended up on top of Frederic who in physicality is a much bigger person.

The NHL officials at first failed to separate the two players as Lomberg’s arm pressed against Frederic’s throat. It was reported that Frederic almost barged into Panthers’ locker room postgame, as the forward was fuming at the whole scenario.

On Friday, Trent Frederic noted, “I was being choked a little bit”. “Couldn’t breathe. Maybe panicked a little too early but it was getting close there where the lights were going to turn off for a second. I’ve never seen that one. It is what it is.”

At the end of the brawl, both Frederic and Lomberg were handed game misconduct, and the game featured a total of 92 penalty minutes with 7 game misconducts. Frederic may get his chance to take revenge for this incident in further games into the Stanley Cup season.

Just gonna play hard and it’ll give me a little extra motivation”. “Try not to react in a negative way to affect the team. Just go play hard and I think it’ll just fuel me a little more. I’m excited to play tonight even more than I normally am,” Frederic noted.

The game drew several scrums with players like Nick Foligno, Garnet Hathway, Matthew Tkachuk, Tomas Nosek, and Eric Staal all getting their personal share. The Bruins are still without their captain Patrice Bergeron. He may join in Game 5 but there’s no confirmation yet.

Heading into Game 3, the Bruins sure got their revenge on Panthers as they snatched victory with a 4-2 record. Linus Ullmark stopped 28 shots to lead the Bruins to victory in their Eastern Conference 1st-round series. With their win, they topped the Panthers with a 2-1 series lead.
