Minnesota Wild winger Ryan Reaves got another hit to add to his already detailed National Hockey League portfolio. The 6-1, a 225-pound player busted Detroit Red Wings Filip Hronek in the face on Wednesday. The hit followed an elongated series of controversies as NHL Twitter got split in their opinions.
Reaves who already has a veteran experience of getting suspended by the League took advantage of Filip’s lack of mindfulness to smash him on the floor. Here we can also find some fault with Filip too, as on ice one knows better than to let his mind stray elsewhere.
Reaves already has 3 NHL suspensions on his head with the 2021 incident being the top famous of all. In 2021 he got a penalty for apparently kneeing New Jersey Devils defenceman Ryan Graves in the face. No matter what Reaves is doing, his hits always seem to get the center of attention on social media.
Ryan Reaves hit on Filip Hronek goes viral on social media
While Filip Hronek was gliding on the ice hunched over, the 35-year-old defenceman struck the daylights out of him. Filip sure saw some early Christmas stars in front of his eyes, given the blow from Reaves was quite a heavy one.
Since Filip was hunched over, his face took a serious beating. Maybe the effect would have subsided a bit had he been paying attention to his surrounding. Reaves can’t be totally blamed, as he crossed and hit him, not like he intended or rushed into the victim. Social media is still divided in opinion on who to blame.
The Red Wings confirmed that Filip was out for the night, while the attacker didn’t receive any penalty from the league. Red Wings coach Derek LaLonde absolved any blame on Reaves and stated that Filip might be hearing a penalty for his lack of awareness.
Derek further stated, “I think Filip would want his play back – exposing himself”. “I talked to him quick there. He thought there was a penalty on the play. He was waiting for the goalie to come out … I know Reaves was not malicious.”
If Derek’s analysis of the hit is correct, the NHL office may put a level of discipline against Reaves and Filip for awareness following the night’s game. Though, no call was made against Reaves on ice.
Unfortunately for the Red Wings, they lost another player to IL. The only good news is, Filip can participate in the game, he was called back to the bench as a precautionary measure.
