Montreal Canadiens 75th-overall pick Vinzenz Rohrer fell victim to a scary incident during the game between Ottawa 67s vs. Kingston Frontenacs. The whole arena fell silent on Wednesday night, as the center got carried off the ice after his collision with Frontenacs Thomas Budnick.

The 18-year-old got picked by the Canadiens during the 2022 NHL Draft in the third round. During Wednesday’s game, Thomas hip-checked Rohrer, throwing him off balance as he fell onto the ice in a vulnerable position. His neck and head crashed with ice first, making the situation dreadful.

Vinzenz Rohrer started convulsing shortly after his fall. The trainers and medics rushed to his side. Before getting picked off the stretcher, he lay motionless for several minutes. He was quickly taken to a local hospital from where the team shared further positive updates.

The Ottawa 67s shared on Twitter that Vinzenz Rohrer has regained consciousness and has shown movements in all of his extremities. Though it may take time to get released, he’s been out of the immediate danger zone. Further evaluation is under process.

Rohrer led Austria during the 2023 World Junior Championship as the team captain. During the tournament, he registered 3 points in 5 games against Latvia. Furthermore, before the horrifying incident on the ice, he scored his first goal in the game, leading his team in the contest.

Prior to yesterday’s game, he had a record of 11 goals and 33 points in 27 games during the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, he isn’t the only Habs prospect to be taken off the ice. In December, Xavier Simoneau got hit in the defensive zone during AHL’s Rocket’s game. He was unconscious and had to be taken out by trainers on a stretcher cautiously.
