Sergio Perez has been going through a horrendous 2023 Formula 1 season. He hasn’t been able to surpass or match the exploits of Max Verstappen and has even committed several silly errors. All this has led to a massive increase in the pressure on him from the outside, and looking at everything; former F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg has advised him to shut out the media completely.
In the ongoing campaign, Sergio Perez has been in baffling form where he has managed some solid results but has also put in incredibly average performances in the best car on the grid this year. Perez’s indifferent form is one of the main reasons he has become the target of the media at almost every Grand Prix weekend.
Nico Rosberg has been keeping close tabs on everything the Mexican driver has done this year, and while talking about him recently, he said, as reported by Racingnews365, “Avoid all media. Just don’t look at it—because he will see all the memes and reactions against him, and the journalists with loaded questions against him.”
“You really have to let that go and I did at the time — social media, e-mail, news, I ignored the whole world in the years I fought for the title.” Rosberg has clearly referred to the tough time he had when he was Lewis Hamilton‘s teammate. He sees a lot of similarities between his and Perez’s woes and feels it would be best for him to ignore the media altogether.
Max Verstappen has easily dominated Sergio Perez at Red Bull
While Nico Rosberg has asked Sergio Perez to disappear completely from the eyes of the media, it is not going to be an easy thing to do when F1 returns after the ongoing summer break. During a Grand Prix weekend, the drivers are extremely busy with one thing or the other and must give several interviews.
The 34-year-old was put in a very difficult situation by the media during the first leg, and it was mostly down to him not being anywhere near what Max Verstappen was producing. Moreover, considering that there are still several races remaining, Perez might have to face the heat again if he doesn’t get his act together during the second leg.
No one in the F1 paddock expects Sergio Perez to challenge his teammate at every race weekend; the least the Red Bull team will ask of him is to keep hold of the second position and try and put his RB19 on the podium as much as possible. F1 is returning on the 25th of August, and several eyes will be on Perez’s exploits.
