The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has backed the complaint made by the human rights organization FairSquare against FIFA’s choice of the first-ever Peace Prize awardee. FIFA conferred the Peace Prize on Donald Trump, the controversial president of the United States of America, during the FIFA World Cup 2026 draw last December.

The non-profit organization filed a complaint with the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee on 8 December 2026, citing four instances in which the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, breached Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, including public support for Donald Trump.

The instances referenced Infantino’s support for Donald Trump’s inauguration, lobbying for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the American president, the business forum endorsement in November, and finally, the newly instituted FIFA Peace Prize.

The NFF has joined in on the complaint. Lise Klaveness, the president of the federation, said they have sent a letter and that it has already sparked some reactions. Klaveness told reporters:

We have sent it, and it is ‌causing some political reactions. But it is sent, and that is checked off. We will follow up, push forward, request meetings, and build momentum on this as soon as the World Cup is over.

The NFF supremo also addressed why they haven’t waited for a collective action. Klaveness told reporters that the other federations knew they could sign it if they wanted to. The former Norwegian midfielder added that the consensus was that pressurizing anyone would be useless and would create unwanted friction.

Klaveness, who has 73 international caps for Norway, assumed the role of the president of NFF in 2022. They have been a strong voice in the footballing governance sector ever since, protesting FIFA’s decision to host the World Cups in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, citing the two nations’ poor migrant worker welfare and stringent backward policies on LGBTQ+ individuals. They have also requested an investigation into Israel during their World Cup qualification campaign, as they were drawn in the same qualifying group.

The Norwegian Football Team has arrived in the States for their maiden World Cup campaign in 28 years

The Norwegian national team has arrived at the Grandover Resort and Spa, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday morning. The hotel is an eight-hour drive away from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, so the national team will fly to Boston and New York for their group stage matches.

They will reside here from their arrival on June 2nd until the group stage is over; after that, they will change hotels depending on how their journey progresses in the World Cup.

Though the nations have become bitter enemies on the geopolitical stage, the Koury Hospitality, which owns the Grandover Resort, has amplified security and made amenities to welcome the Scandinavian guests. Kelly Harrill, the executive vice president of thee Koury Corporation told VG:

If you are planning to come here because you hope to see the team, we ask you not to. The message to fans is that they must stay away from the hotel.

The hotel has closed off several floors exclusively for Norway’s players and support staff. Additionally, Norway will have its own private hotel entrance, and security guards will be stationed everywhere. The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) also beefed up its security team before departing for the tournament.

Despite this being their first trip to the World Cup in 28 years, Norway has established itself as a team to fear with a perfect record in the qualifying stage. Their star-studded lineup with big names like Erling Haaland, Alexander Sorloth, and Martin Ødegaard add to the charm.

Norway’s opening match in the World Cup is against Iraq on Wednesday, June 17th, and will be played at Gillette Stadium outside of Boston.
