The Tokyo Olympics just concluded and what a hit it was. Japan rode the rough wave and proved to be a brilliant host even during this tumultuous time. The events took place from the 24th of July to the 9th of August. A staggering total of 339 events were held across 17 days.

The United States of America finished first in the medal tally with 113 Medals. The split up – 39 Gold medals, 41 Silver medals and 43 Bronze medals. China came a close second with 38 Gold medals. Had they picked up two more Gold medals they would have stood first by means of number of Gold medals. Japan finished 3rd with 27 Gold medals. The total medal tally for the host nation was 58 medals.

Wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics began on the 1st of August, and went on until the 7th. A total of 18 events took place with 288 competitors from 61 nations. The sport featured two disciplines – freestyle and Greco-Roman. It is worth noting that, Wrestling has featured in all of the Olympic Games except the 1900 Olympics.

The wrestling events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics took place at the Makuhari Messe. With the single-elimination being the usual feature, flanked by repechages, the events went ahead.

It was close between Japan, Russia and the USA. Japan finished first in the table, with 5 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 1 Bronze medal to their name. But the country did not bag the most medals. It was the United States of America that secured the most medals at the 2020 Olympics.

USA won 3 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals, finishing with a tally of 9 medals. Russia was a close second with 8 medals to their name – 4 Gold and 4 Bronze. For the USA, Thomas Gilman, Kyle Dake, Sarah Hildebrandt and Helen Maroulis won the Bronze medals. While Gilman and Dake won their medals in men’s freestyle wrestling, Hildebrandt and Maroulis did it in the women’s freestyle wrestling.

Kyle Snyder and Adeline Gray won the Silver medals. The Gold medal was won by Men’s freestyle wrestlers David Taylor and Gable Steveson, and women’s freestyle wrestler Tamyra Mensah.
