Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens became a hot topic overnight following interview with ‘The Pivot Podcast’. The whole world dived straight into controversy after Owens claimed he didn’t know who 7x Olympian was prior to their dating. The couple met on Raya, a dating app, where both swiped right on each other’s profiles. 

While Biles was the one to text him first, the liking was mutual from both sides. Unfortunately, Owens comments on how he didn’t know who the star Olympian was and claiming he’s the “catch” in their relationship, sparked ugly online controversy.

Fans found it absurd that the Green Bay Packers safety didn’t know who Biles was, despite her fame as the GOAT. Biles’ contribution to gymnastics crowned her as one of the greatest athletes. Owens’ comments however fueled hostility from fans. One even commented, “He shouldn’t have disclosed at all”, while another blasted the NFL star stating, “She is so astronomically out of your league!”

What hoped to be a romantic story between Owens and Biles, turned into controversy after the NFL star revealed how he did not know the 7x Olympian prior to 2020. Although he explained his reasons for not knowing, fans didn’t seem to accept it.

During the interview with ‘The Pivot Podcast’ Jonathan Owens said “men are the catch” and he wasn’t ready to commit to marriage but changed his tune after meeting Simone Biles. Co-host Channing Chowder questioned “How in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?”, to which the safety admitted “didn’t know who she was” in 2020.

He said that Biles “piqued my curiosity” and soon learned that she was one of the most celebrated athletes. He later went on to explain that he was in college when Biles won the Olympics and he didn’t have access to NBC or Olympics channels to learn of her achievements.

Despite his reasons, fans found it impossible to not know who Simone Biles is. Furthermore, Owens’ comment on how “she had to drive about 45 minutes” to reach him, evoked controversy. Nevertheless, the couple is going strong, as the safety took to Instagram captioning “unbothered” by online fuss. Biles also posted on Instagram stating “??? for life,” to show her support.

Looking back at how their relationship started, Owens admitted “we just hit it off instantly” after constant “texting back and forth” and meeting in person. While many Owens got criticized for his comments, there were also many who supported the duo. Regardless, the couple themselves are supportive of each other and many are hoping their bond to grow stronger over time.
