In a stunning turn of events, TV anchor and former ESPN host Sage Steele has now dropped a huge bombshell on her previous company. The host recently claimed that ESPN demanded her to stop tweeting about trans swimmer Lia Thomas.
Thomas, the former NCAA swimmer, is one of those whose name has been dragged around this year. The trans athlete competed against female swimmers after previously competing as a male in the men’s category. She was later able to beat her opponents with ease and set several records.
Since this incident, Riley Gaines has kept on slamming her and the NCAA for their actions. Several other prominent names have joined Gaines in attacking Thomas for her role in it. Steele was one of them who tweeted about the trans swimmer’s involvement. She recently appeared on OutKick’s “Gaines for Girls” podcast and opened up about the incident with her company.
I was asked to stop tweeting about it. I was asked to stop doing anything, saying anything about it on social media because I was offending others at the company...This is not even my opinion about a vaccine mandate or whatever, these are facts. This is science, this is biology.Sage Steele as a part of her answer through OutKick.
Steele and ESPN went their separate ways earlier this year after the two sides settled a lawsuit filed by her. This is though not the first time when the media company has found itself under the spotlight regarding their employees and their thoughts on Thomas.
Earlier this year, another ESPN broadcaster Sam Ponder was accused of having a “bigotry” stance against trans athletes. Gaines would later come in her support and attack those who slammed Ponder for expressing her views.
Sage Steele refuses to stay silent on speaking about Lia Thomas
The recent words of Sage Steele while speaking to Riley Gaines on Lia Thomas have once again left everyone stunned. The broadcaster’s word on her former company has become a topic of discussion online. Steele has now refused to stay silent on speaking about Thomas.
Sharing a clip from the podcast, Steele reaffirmed her stance against the former NCAA swimming champion. Taking to her X account she wrote:
I still refuse to accept that women have to be silent about supporting other women, silent about speaking the truth -- even if our employers are the ones trying to silence us.Sage Steele on refusing to being silent on supporting other women through X.
Following these words from Steele, Gaines came in support of her. The women’s activist who was recently named the Problematic Women of the Year for her fight against the system for women’s safety, claimed the sports media needed more people like Steele.
Recently Gaines found herself slamming trans cyclists Tessa Johnson and Evelyn Williamson, who have dominated the cycling races in Chicago for months. She also attacked Kristian Chalmers, the cyclist who finished behind them for not taking a stand against this.
The inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports has become a national debate across the US at this point. While several states have already implemented laws to prevent this from happening at educational institutions, some are yet to decide on it.
