The day 13th of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 marked the first time ever Karate events being held under the banner of the Olympic Games. This is the first time the karatekas are competing at the Olympic stage to win a medal for their nations in the Tokyo Olympic Karate competitions. The first weight category in the men’s Kumite which was held on 5th August was the -67 Kg weight category. It consisted of 11 players representing 11 nations of the world. The competition began with two round-robin stage matches, group A consisted of 5 athletes and ground B consisted of 6 athletes.
After having a really interesting set of fights, Darkhan Assadilov from Kazakhstan is going to face Steven Da Costa from France in the first semi-final and Abdel Rahman Almasatfa from Jordan is going to face Erat Samdan from Turkey in the second semifinal.
Tokyo Olympics: Steven Da Costa from France wins first ever Gold Medal in Men’s Karate at -67 Kg Kumite
The French Karateka, Steven Da Costa has written his name in the history books by winning the first-ever Gold Medal of Karate in Olympic history at -67 Kg Kumite. Costa started his campaign by defeating Andres Madera from Venezuela, then he dominated the opponent from Latvia, Kalvis Kalnins, and defeated him by a score of 11-2.
In the semi-finals, he faced, Darkhan Assadilov from Kazakhstan who was undefeated in his pool by a score of 5-2. He faced the opponent from Turkey, Eray Samdan in the final fight. Costa scored an ippon in the end and won the fight by a score of 5-0 and won the first-ever Gold Medal in Men’s Karate event at -67 Kg Kumite at the Tokyo Olympics.
Karate Live Results: Eray Samdan from Turkey clinched Silver Medal at Tokyo Olympics Karate
Eray Samdan was one of the biggest prospects of a medal at the Tokyo Olympics Karate, he defeated Naoto Sago from Japan in the very first fight and then moved to face Ali Elsawy from Egypt and defeated him by a score of 4-1. In the semi-finals, he defeated Abdel Rahman Almasatfa from Jordan and entered the finals.
Although, he fell short in front of Steven Da Costa but he won Silver Medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the -67 Kg Men’s Kumite event.
Karate Live Results: Abdel Rahman Almasatfa from Jordan won second Bronze Medal in -67 Kg Men’s Kumite
Abdel Rahman Almasatfa from Jordan secured the second Bronze Medal in the Men’s 67 Kg Kumite event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He defeated Andres Madera from Venezuela in his first fight by a score of 4-1, then faced Hamoon Derafshipour from Refugee Olympic Team and defeated him by a score of 3-0.
He moved forward and defeated Steven Da Costa from France in his next fight by a score of 7-4 and Kalvis Kalnins by 8-3 in his last pool stage fight.
Karate Live Results: Darkhan Assadilov from Kazakhstan secured Bronze Medal
The Karateka from Kazakhstan, Darkhan Assadilov secured Bronze Medal in the Men’s -67 Kg Kumite event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Assadilov defeated Ali Elsawy from Egypt in his first fight by a score of 3-1, then he defeated Naoto Sago from Japan by a score of 3-0 in his next fight.
Assadilov then moved forward to fight Firdovsi Farzaliyev from Azerbaijan and defeated him by 6-2. He stayed undefeated in pool A as he defeated Eray Samdan from Turkey in his last pool fight. Although, he fell short in front of the French opponent, Steven Da Costa who defeated him by a score of 5-2 and moved to the finals.
