There is immense competition every two years between big cities to host the Olympics. Ultimately, International Olympic Council chooses which city will be hosting the Olympics. The cities are chosen almost seven to eight years in advance. There are several criteria that are taken into consideration, such as:

  • excellent facilities for sports
  • accommodation for athletes, tourists and journalists
  • smooth transport facilities
  • Practice venues
  • Reliable Security

Then, according to the World Atlas, the cities that are competing must pay USD 150,000. However, under the current rules, the IOC looks at the facilities that are already available in the city.

The cities then have to present six issues to IOC. These may include Security, Funding, Sports Dates, Athletes’ experience, Olympic Village, Vision for the Olympics, etc. The cities are then judged by the IOC and finally, one city is selected.
