The Cleveland Cavaliers are visiting the Utah Jazz on Tuesday in Vivint Arena. The Jazz is also ready to welcome their superstar Donovan Mitchell with much love and applause. Donovan Mitchell was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2017 in the same class as Jason Tatum. Since joining Jazz, Mitchell had become one of the most loved Jazz players. After five years in Utah Mitchell was traded to Cleveland before the 2022-23 season started.
Before the former Jazzman returns to his former home, Jazz owner Ryan Smith wants to make sure he welcomes his superstar with the same love as before. “Once a Jazzman, always a Jazzman. We honor the amazing five seasons Donovan gave the Jazz and the incredible contributions he made to the Utah community,” Smith said. In these 5 seasons with Donovan, the Jazz was one of the top regular season teams in the league and had epic playoff battles against top teams in the West.
Smith also added that Mitchell has become a part of Jazz’s legacy and even when he fights for the other side. “He will always be part of the Jazz’s legacy, even when he is wearing another jersey as our competitor. I look forward to seeing every fan join me in a standing ovation as Donovan returns to Utah for the first time of many over the course of his career,” said Ryan. After what Mitchell has done for the city, he deserves every single applause from them and even more.

Mitchell was traded to Utah on his draft night and later emerged as one of the best players in the league over the years. He went on to become one of the much-loved and legacy players of the franchise. Along with Jason Tatum, Mitchell was the only player from the 2017 draft class, apart from Jayson Tatum, who made All-Sta 3 out of their first 5 seasons.
In his 5 years with the Jazz, Mitchell was able to earn many accolades for himself and his team. He won the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest and was also named First-Team All-Rookie in his rookie year. In December 2021, Mitchell also won Western Conference Player of the Month. During his stint with the Jazz, Spida averaged 23.9 points, 4.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. He also shot 44.1% shooting from the floor and 36.1% from the three-point line.
Mitchell is number 8 in points scored for the Jazz with 8,234 points and he is also number 4 in points scored per game with 23.9 points per game. He is also number 3 in three-point scoring (958) and number 8 in assists per game. Similarly, DM has been excellent in the postseason. He ranks 4th in points with 1073, and number 7 in assists with 175. Mitchell also owns the Jazz’s all-time single-season three-point record, after knocking down 232 during the 2021-22 season. So far with the Cavaliers, he has been averaging 28.8 points per game.
