Oscar De La Hoya admitted he was wrong about Dana White and the 2017 matchup between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. De La Hoya told Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo on their podcast that he did not understand it which was why he critiqued it. However, after becoming one of the biggest matchups in combat sports history De La Hoya realized he was wrong.

De La Hoya recently sat down for a conversation on the ‘Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry’ podcast. During their conversation, Usman brought up the rivalry between De La Hoya and UFC CEO Dana White.

I think when Mayweather and Conor McGregor got made, I critiqued it a bit. I was like 'Come on that's not going to be a real fight... didn't really know too much about what was going on. I didn't understand it so I critiqued it.

De La Hoya’s criticism was if this was a real fight or if was it all for show. However, Mayweather vs. McGregor went on to gross over $600 million in revenue. It also set the record for the second biggest money fight in boxing history. De La Hoya said he would sit there and apologize but he did admit that he was wrong.

He even complimented the UFC for putting MMA under one roof and wished boxing were the same. The boxing promoter told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that he wants to set mega events in boxing similar to UFC 300 once every year.

Oscar De La Hoya was inspired by Dana White and the scale of the recent UFC 300 mega event. Reportedly, his rival reminded him of Don King and the big-scale fights he would bring to the table.

Former boxing champion turned promoter De La Hoya recently sat down with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. During their conversation, the promoter revealed wishing to set up mega boxing events once a year inspired by UFC 300.

You know I took a page off of Dana White’s book there. It reminded me when Don King would promote those big fight cards…..I think that’s what boxing has to do…And sprinkle one of those mega events like UFC 300 once a year.

De La Hoya and Dana White did not see eye to eye on many things. The former boxing champion even challenged the UFC CEO to a fight between Ryan Garcia vs. Sean O’Malley. However, it seems like their animosity is slowly changing to mutual respect.
