‘Pacquiao is very good as a matter of fact, but McGregor can beat him in a boxing match’ – George Foreman weighs in on Conor McGregor vs Manny Pacquiao
Conor McGregor made his much awaited return to the octagon at UFC 257. He took on Dustin Poirier in a rematch, after having their first, almost 7 years agoo. However, things didn’t go as planned for the ‘Notorious’, as he got knocked out for the first time in his glorious MMA career. The loss also reduced the possibility of a boxing bout between himself and boxing great Manny Pacquiao, which has been on the cards, for quite a while, since Conor expressed his desire to take on ‘The PacMan‘, last September.
Speaking about this in an interview with Daily Star, former boxing heavyweight champion George Foreman revealed that Conor ‘is a better puncher than he is in MMA’. Surprisingly, he also felt that Conor McGregor can beat Pacquiao in a boxing match.
‘He’s not going to do good in MMA anymore‘
George Foreman was quoted as saying, “It’s hard for McGregor to accept it, but he’s a better puncher than he is in MMA. I’d rather see him in boxing matches now. I think if he has a fight with Pacquiao he can actually beat him – good rules, over 10 rounds, McGregor can beat him. He’s already adjusted to boxing, he’s not going to do good in MMA anymore. Pacquiao is very good as a matter of fact, but McGregor can beat him in a boxing match.”
Conor McGregor has just one fight in professional boxing. He took on another boxing great Floyd Mayweather, in August, 2017, losing via TKO in the 10th round. But for now, it looks like, he is focused on the possible trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, as a matter of fact, any bout which would help him creep into the apex of the rankings.
Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since his victory over Keith Thurman, back in 2019. He has also been flirting with the possibility of taking on young prospect Ryan Garcia, in a professional boxing bout.
