Paralympic Games
After watching some terrific action at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, it is time to witness exciting stuff at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. now. The Games will begin on August 24, 2021, and will stretch for two weeks till September 5, 2021. It will be the 16th edition of the Paralympic Games and interestingly, it is for the second time after 1965 that the event is taking place in Tokyo.
Unlike the Olympic Games, the Paralympics doesn’t have five rings on its logo. Even though both the Olympics and the Paralympics come under the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Paralympics treat themselves as a separate entity managed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Thus, they have a different logo.
In the Paralympics’ official logo, one can find three ‘Agitos’. They are red, blue, and green in colour. This logo was launched at the closing ceremony of the 2004 Athens Paralympics.
Everything to know about the Paralympics Agitos
Agito is actually a Latin word that means ‘to move’. These are red, blue, and green in colour as the flags of most of the nations have these colours on them. These three Agitos encircle a point that symbolises motion. It also emphasises the role of the Paralympic Movement in bringing athletes together from all corners of the world to compete.
The logo is made in accordance with the Paralympics Moto- Spirit in Motion’, representing the strong will of every Paralympian. Apart from this, the Agitos also reflect the fact that Paralympic athletes are constantly inspiring and exciting the world with their performances and they are always moving forward and never giving up.
Thus, the Agitos have a unique objective and represent the mentality of every Paralympian. It’ll be intriguing to see which nation manages to grab the most medals at the Paralympics this year?
