Patrick Mahomes’ Sunday night performance against the Los Angeles Chargers was underwhelming for his high standards. Nevertheless, he did enough to lead the Chiefs to a 22-6 win.
Mahomes completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. He didn’t need to play lights-out football. He let Kenneth Walker do his bidding for him.
Walker had 128 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries—second straight game with at least 19 carries, 120 yards, and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs defense chipped in with four sacks, one interception and a fumble return. The Chiefs are now 5-0. With that win over the Chargers, Patrick Mahomes joined Tom Brady on 100 career regular-season wins from 131 games.

Mahomes has thrown 4831 completions (66.2%) for 37,248 yards, 276 touchdowns, and 88 interceptions. He also has 20 rushing touchdowns to his name. Brady had 31,755 passing yards, 234 touchdowns, and 101 interceptions. Brady won three Super Bowl rings, the same as Mahomes.
“It seems like every time I win a game, I’m tying him [Tom Brady], so I’m gonna keep winning,” Patrick Mahomes told CBS reporter Melanie Collins after the game.

Patrick Mahomes makes his feelings clear about equaling Tom Brady’s regular-season win record
Mahomes hit a wall in 2024 when the Eagles stopped him from winning a fourth ring. The Chiefs didn’t win another game last year after he suffered an Achilles injury in Week 16.

KC brought back Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator in the offseason. Mahomes played his best football in Bieniemy’s first spell, delivering two championships.
The Chiefs are one of the three 5-0 teams since Bieniemy started training the offense. Mahomes has 105 completions for 1309 yards, 10 total touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.
The win also helped him reach another personal milestone which the three-time Super Bowl winner spoke about. He now has 100 career regular-season wins, tying with Brady.
It’s always an honor to be in any conversation as far as winning football with him. If you can be mentioned in any category with him, it’s special.

This season, he tied with Brady for the fastest to 98 and 99 career wins after victories over the Dolphins and the Raiders, respectively.
“I’m like, when did Tom lose another game? Because I feel like every game I win, I’m tied,” Mahomes asked rhetorically, which garnered a laugh from the reporters.
The Chiefs offense looked stale
KC has been firing on all cylinders this year. They averaged at least 24 points in each of their first four games. But the defense wasn’t on par with the offense. The Colts and the Raiders lost in one-score thrillers.
Analysts predicted the defense would overpower the league’s worst offense, and it did, but on this occasion, the offense fell flat. Sure, KC scored 22 points, but they wasted the chance for a blowout win.
Mahomes admitted sometimes things don’t go as they want. He wanted to throw two or three touchdowns but finished with zero. Walker helped out in the run game.
The Super Bowl 60 MVP leads the league with 665 yards and 5 touchdowns despite playing one fewer game. He also broke the record for most rushing yards by a Chiefs running back in five games.
Xavier Worthy led the receivers with 7 catches for 73 yards. Veteran tight end Travis Kelce caught 4 for 53 yards.
The Chiefs play the Seattle Seahawks next week. The Seahawks are the first defending Super Bowl Champions to start the season with three wins and three losses. Mahomes is 1-1 against the NFC West franchise. He won this contest the last time this fixture took place in December 2022.
