The latest episode of SmackDown was the last episode of the weekly show before the draft changes went live. Speaking of the WWE Draft, Paul Heyman made a surprising revelation about Roman Reigns.
On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Heyman revealed that the Tribal Chief did not pull himself out of the WWE Draft. Rather, it was his Wiseman that pulled him out. The ECW legend claimed that he had no choice in the matter. He simply could not subject the former Shield member to the chaos that was ongoing in the Bloodline.
General Manager Nick Aldis had initially asked the Hall of Famer if he was in charge of the new version of the faction. It was considered that all communication to Roman Reigns and the Bloodline must go through him. The ECW legend mentioned that there was a difference between being in charge and being in control.

In a flurry of emotions and frustration, the Wiseman revealed the 58-year-old hadn’t spoken to the 2015 Royal Rumble Winner since WrestleMania. Aldis seemed confused by this comment. He asked the Wiseman how, if he hadn’t spoken to the former WWE Undisputed Champion, he would have announced his withdrawal from the WWE Draft. This finally forced the former WWE commentator to reveal the truth.
Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns convinced Triple H and Nick Khan to change the finish of WrestleMania 39
WrestleMania 39 infamously ended with a controversial finish. Cody Rhodes was unsuccessful in finishing his story and becoming the WWE Undisputed Champion. Most fans initially blamed Vince McMahon for this decision. The billionaire had weaseled his way back into the company in early 2023 and made several changes to the product. However, it seems like WWE executives such as Triple H and Nick Khan were on board with this decision.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The American Nightmare was originally slated to finish his story a year before WrestleMania XL. However, both Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman convinced WWE higher-ups that the Tribal Chief should retain his championship at the event. This was not done for any selfish reason.
They believed that keeping the championship on the Tribal Chief for another year would elevate other talent, such as Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa. Furthermore, waiting for another year to finish the story would make Cody Rhodes’ title win more special.
The idea clearly worked. Both Solo Sikoa and Jey Uso have gone on to become megastars over the past year. Additionally, Cody Rhodes winning the WWE Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania XL was highly emotional. It will definitely go down as one of the best finishes in WrestleMania history.
