Paula Badsoa expressed her surprise at Carlos Alcaraz‘s ability to smile even in high-pressure situations. Badosa also lauded Jannik Sinner, calling both him and her compatriot an inspiration for their mental strength.

Badosa is in Abu Dhabi for the season’s fourth WTA 500 event. As she is eyeing her first title since the 2024 Citi Open, she found inspiration in the two youngsters, Alcaraz and Sinner. With a combined total of seven Grand Slam titles, they are tipped to become great players.

It’s true, sometimes I look at Alcaraz and Sinner as an inspiration because they handle pressure well, especially Carlitos. It’s incredible. He smiles all the time. Even if the score is 5–5, he manages to smile, how is that possible? I think Jannik and Carlitos are very similar.

The two top players in Men’s tennis were last seen in action at the Australian Open. Alcaraz was eyeing the Career Grand Slam but Novak Djokovic spoiled his plans with a four-set victory in the quarterfinals. World No.1 Sinner however concluded his campaign with a straight-set win over Alexander Zverev in the final.

Paula Badosa reveals if she would want her children to be tennis players

During the same podcast, Paula Badosa also opened up about depression, injuries, her comeback, and about how tough it is to be a tennis player. When asked whether she would want her children to choose tennis as a career, Badosa said that from her experience, she wouldn’t like them to pick up the racket.

Some parts it’s very nice, I want them to do sports. Because it gives you another vision and values in life. But also then I think, the tennis life, or the sports life, it’s so tough. But I’m the kind of person that I want them to decide whatever they want.

Badosa, who is the second seed at the Abu Dhabi Open, is set to lock horns with Linda Noskova in the first round. The upcoming match will be their first meeting since the 2021 WTA Finals. The World No.10 has met Noskova twice and is 1-1 in the head-to-head meetings.

The Abu Dhabi Open is Badosa’s second tournament of this season following the Australian Open where she progressed to the semifinals for the first time but was defeated by World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. It was also the 27-year-old’s first semifinal in Grand Slam events.
