Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem were among the high profile supporters celebrating Spain’s 3-0 victory over Austria in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 on July 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The Oscar-winning couple watched the match from a suite as Spain secured its place in the Round of 16. Singer Rosalía also attended the fixture and posed for photographs before kickoff with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán. During the match, Cruz, Bardem and Rosalía were seen celebrating Spain’s goals from the stands.
The World Cup knockout match also drew several of Spain’s biggest football names. Three-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2023 Women’s World Cup champion Alexia Putellas was in attendance alongside former Spain internationals Carles Puyol, David Villa, Fernando Hierro and Míchel Salgado.
The celebrity presence extended beyond Spain’s delegation. Olympic rugby star Ilona Maher, Los Angeles FC legend Carlos Vela, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, television host James Corden and former Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher were also spotted at the stadium as Spain advanced to the next round of the tournament.

Spain delivered another dominant performance to eliminate Austria and move into the Round of 16. After an evenly contested opening, Spain broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Marc Cucurella threaded a precise pass into the penalty area for Mikel Oyarzabal, who finished first time into the far corner.

Spain nearly doubled its lead before halftime. Alex Baena struck the crossbar from a free kick in first half stoppage time, while Austria goalkeeper Alexander Schlager produced another save to deny Lamine Yamal from close range.
The second goal arrived in the 66th minute after Cucurella combined with Baena, whose unselfish cross found Pedro Porro. The defender headed home his first international goal to make it 2-0. Oyarzabal completed the scoring in the 89th minute, sliding onto another perfectly weighted Cucurella cross to score his second goal of the match and seal Spain’s 3-0 victory.
Spain finished with a 2.84 to 0.32 expected goals advantage, outshot Austria 23 to 5, recorded 10 shots on target and did not allow Austria a single shot on goal. Yamal contributed an assist and was named Man of the Match.
After the match, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente praised his team’s display while insisting there was still room for improvement. “The image of the team is fabulous.”
He added, “We are not yet satisfied. We are going for more.” Austria coach Ralf Rangnick acknowledged the challenge posed by the Spanish side. “Possibly the next world champion,” Rangnick said of Spain, adding his team had faced “an opponent that is in a special class.”
Spain will face Portugal in the Round of 16, while Austria’s World Cup campaign ended with the defeat at SoFi Stadium.
