Former Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel took a brutal dig at Manchester City fans, for the ‘lackluster’ atmosphere during their UCL opener against Inter Milan. The Manchester United legend termed the Etihad Stadium’s atmosphere during the match as completely ‘dead’.
It was a repeat of the 2023 UCL final, as the reigning EPL champions took over the Serie A champions. Pep Guardiola’s side, who have won all their matches this season, however, failed to overcome the Inter challenge, as the scores ended 0-0. Erling Haaland, who has already scored nine goals, also failed to open his account against a robust Inter Milan defense. Some fans blamed Kevin De Bruyne’s injury during the match as a reason for the team’s inability to secure a win at the Etihad.
However, former Man Utd keeper Peter Schmeichel blamed the stadium atmosphere and the fans for the club’s rather dismal outing against Inter. Labeling the match as ‘boring’, the Danish legend slammed the home fans for neither being loud nor intimidating enough, and surprisingly stated that the Inter fans were better at the Etihad. Schmeichel highlighted the importance of an excited crowd, which he had expected at the Etihad, but it did not turn out to be like that.
I felt Inter did a good job in stopping Manchester City. The Etihad was absolutely dead. The only people we could hear were the Inter supporters who were quite good. But there was no atmosphere.Peter Schmeichel spoke to CBS Sports (H/T: Metro)

Manchester City will next be facing rivals Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, as they hope to continue their impressive form in the EPL this season. Meanwhile, their next Champions League outing will be against Slovakian side, Slovan Bratislava, in October.
Manchester City left worried over Kevin De Bruyne’s injury against Inter Milan
Manchester City have been left worried, after star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was forced off due to an injury, against Inter Milan, and they were held to a goalless draw by the Serie A giants, in their opening Champions League match.
The Belgian midfielder looked in discomfort prior to the half-time whistle, after colliding with Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu. At half-time, he was seen clutching his groin in pain, as he hobbled down the tunnel, later being replaced by Ilkay Gundogan. His condition remains unclear, and it would be a huge setback for the club if the 33-year-old play-maker gets ruled out due to any injury.
Moreover, it comes as an untimely setback for Man City, who face their biggest challenge in Arsenal on Sunday. Last season, De Bruyne had spent around 120 days on the sidelines for Man City, due to a hamstring issue.
