Saquon Barkley had more than 20 carries with just short of 100 yards and 4 receptions against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. Yet a crucial drop from their star running back cost the Philadelphia Eagles the game.
The Eagles led the tie 21-15 and were close to increasing the score further with under 1:50 minutes left on the clock. Quarterback Jalen Hurts hit Barkley with a perfect running throw, but the pass bounced off his fingernails and he dropped it.
As it was Monday Night Football on ESPN, the duo of Peyton Manning and Eli Manning were reacting to play-by-play with special guest and former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. All three were shocked to see Barkley unable to keep hold of the ball.

That drop proved very costly because, in the very next drive, the Falcons QB Kirk Cousins connected with Drake London to take the lead by one point. The seven-play drive was the fastest of the night, resulting in Cousins’ first win in Atlanta colors.
The Falcons had just a 0.7% chance of winning with 1:56 left in the 4th quarter, according to the NGS win probability model.

There wasn’t much time left for Jalen Hurts to lead an Eagles drive, so he went Hail Mary. Unfortunately, the pass was picked off. The game ended 22-21 in favor of the Falcons.
According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, the Falcons had a 0.7% chance of winning the game until Cousins and London linked up for the touchdown.
Saquon Barkley claimed he let the team down
The 27-year-old rusher went into the game on the back of a great debut in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers. He had 24 carries for 109 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 receiving touchdown.
Barkley’s confidence reflected against the Falcons, but one bad mistake was enough for the Eagles to lose the game. Later, he spoke with Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports in the Eagles locker room and expressed his disappointment.
I dropped the ball. Let the team down today. Shouldn’t have put the defense in that position. If I make the catch, the game is over.Saquon Barkley said

Jalen Hurts finished with 23/28 for 183 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. It wasn’t pretty, and the pro bowler admitted that he has areas to improve on.
I didn't feel like I was sharp enough today, not accurate enough. But that last drive hopefully will give us a boost going into next week. We can build on that.Jalen Hurts said
Up next, the Eagles travel to Louisiana to face the surprise package after two weeks, the New Orleans Saints. Derek Carr and co. are 2-0 following the blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
