Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on a mission to prove his doubters wrong by leading the Philadelphia Eagles to victory in the NFL Super Bowl on February 9. The Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers 22-10 last weekend to book their place in the Divisional round of the playoffs.
They then took on the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Divisional round, and beat them 28-22, courtesy of a strong first-half start. Hurts led for the Eagles in terms of passing yards, with 128. The Eagles are the third favourites in the NFL betting to win the Super Bowl behind Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs, who both posted 15-2 records during the regular season.
Plenty of critics have questioned whether Hurts possesses the ability to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title since the 2017 season. The 26-year-old threw for just 131 yards against the Packers – a statistic that had critics suggesting his numbers would not be good enough to fire the Eagles to glory.
That viewpoint conveniently overlooks the fact that the Eagles posted a 13-1 record in their last 14 regular season matches. Hurts is clearly doing something right – a point he is keen to hammer home.
Jalen Hurts asked about his last performance, and getting into a rhythm early: “I think you guys need to understand I don’t play the game for anything other than to win. My role and approach in each game will be different.. Ultimately it’s about winning the game. It’s playoff… pic.twitter.com/M8T2WlviBp

Jalen Hurts’ numbers and approach could go a long way in leading Eagles to glory
Jalen Hurts’ comments undoubtedly take on greater significance when considering the numbers he posted during the Eagles’ bid to win the 2022 Super Bowl. He threw for 304 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 70 yards, and scored three rushing touchdowns – the most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in Super Bowl history.
His three touchdowns and a two-point conversion also tied the record for most points scored in a Super Bowl (20). Despite this, the Eagles were beaten 38-35 by the Chiefs. Crucially, the Eagles quarterback lost a fumble in the second quarter which was returned for a touchdown by Nick Bolton. The error left a long-lasting mark on Hurts.
He has clearly learned from the mistake judging by his record of one interception and one fumble lost since the Eagles’ bye week in early October. In a sport that is often guilty of over-emphasizing the importance of statistics, Hurts’ laser-focused approach to winning games could pay dividends for the Eagles this season.
Having come agonizingly close to winning the 2022 Super Bowl, it is easy to see why Hurts is now taking a more pragmatic approach in his bid to lead the Eagles to the title.
