“When Lewis Hamilton doesn’t win, there will be always something happening to him or to Mercedes,” says Pierre Gasly

Lewis Hamilton has been the most dominant driver in F1 history in the past decade, winning six titles in the last seven seasons. Mercedes have won seven consecutive constructors championships, and are a major force to reckon with.

Pierre Gasly too his maiden F1 victory at Monza last year, in which Lewis Hamilton dropped behind, after receiving a stop-go penalty. The Frenchman believes that having the same winner in F1 races is becoming boring for fans. He stated that if Lewis Hamilton does not win a race, it is because something would have happened to the team. He implied that Hamilton would win every race if not for the incidents.

At the end of the day, the reality is that there are differences between the cars and if there will be no race incidents or no unexpected things happening in the race, then that will be boring,Gasly said. “And I [don’t] think that’s why people watch F1 races,” he added.

Obviously the Mercedes had their issues, but there are a lot of people that could have won that race – Carlos, Lando [Norris], Bottas came back, he was in P6 before the middle of the race – and no one did it. So I think we fully deserved it,” he continued.

Pierre Gasly believes that when Sergio Perez won the Sakhir GP last season, both Mercedes cars were dealing with problems of their own. “When Sergio [Perez] won, Mercedes had all sorts of issues and then you could say the same. But I believe you can say the same thing as long as Lewis doesn’t win, there will be always something happening to him or to Mercedes,” said Gasly.

However, the dominance of Mercedes might come to an end this season, as Red Bull are looking a much better team than last year. Max Verstappen won the Imola GP, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The young Dutch driver almost finished first at the Bahrain GP, as the fans were treated to an epic final few laps between the Red Bull driver and Lewis Hamilton.
