The fourth set of group stage matches of the UEFA Nations League will kick off tonight. Spain vs Ukraine and Germany vs Switzerland are the two matches which will kick start the fourth set of group stage matches.
Sweden will travel to Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon where Portugal will host them in their reverse fixture of the UEFA Nations League. A Cristiano Ronaldo goal handed Portugal their three points when they first met Sweden in September.
Portugal played France in Paris on Sunday which resulted in a goalless draw. The defending European Champions dominated France in the match and displayed an amazing performance which many did not expect. As a result of the draw Portugal are now tied with the World Champions at the top of Group 3.
Sweden on the other hand are at the bottom of the table after losing all of their three matches so far. Their last game against Croatia resulted in a 2- 1 loss for them. Marcus Berg’s equaliser wasn’t enough for Sweden as Andrej Kramaric netted in the winning goal for Croatia.
Head to Head
In 19 encounters between these two sides, it is Sweden who hold the advantage, however slight it may be. The Scandinavians have beaten Portugal seven times, while Portugal have won six games, with six games ending in draws.
Their most recent encounter came in the reverse fixture last month, which ended 2-0 in Portugal’s favour, thanks to two sensational Cristiano Ronaldo goals, on a night when the superstar scored his 100th goal for his country.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be absent as he tested positive for COVID – 19 earlier today. Ronaldo has withdrawn himself from the Portugal squad which means that the Portuguese Captain will have to undergo 10 days of self isolation atleast.
Portugal Predicted Lineup: Rui Patricio, Joao Cancelo, Pepe, Ruben Dias, Raphael Guerreiro, William Carvalho, Ruben Neves, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Andre Silva
Sweden Predicted Lineup: Robin Olsen, Mikael Lustig, Victor Lindelof, Pontus Jansson, Pierre Bengtsson, Emil Forsberg, Albin Ekdal, Kristoffer Olsson, Viktor Claesson, Alexander Isak and Marcus Berg
Portugal are goalless in this International break and the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo will further cause worries to Fernando Santos’ side. However Portugal thumped Croatia 4 – 1 last month without the services of Ronaldo. Hence the absence of Ronaldo won’t be a huge disadvantage for the Portuguese. We predict the score line to be, Portugal 2 – 1 Sweden.
