Newly promoted side Leicester City were staring down a significant points deduction at the start of the season. The Foxes were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules and were in line for a penalty. While the rules only allow a £105 million deficit, the numbers state that Leicester were £19.5 million over the permissible limit.

However, the Premier League now finds itself in an embarrassing position where it cannot enforce its own rules. While a commission had initially found Leicester guilty of breaching the rules, the club chose to take the League to court. It is understood that Leicester will walk away ‘unharmed’ from the case after the club transferred its shareholding in the Premier League to Luton Town who were relegated to the second division.

Aston Villa narrowly escape Premier League points deduction with last-minute transfer

A club that remained significantly active throughout the transfer window is Aston Villa, with the club bringing in Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen and Jaden Philogene. Now that the summer transfer window is over, Aston Villa have revealed how close they were to a ‘season-ending’ points deduction. With just hours to go, Villla completed the transfer of star player Douglas Luiz to Juventus on a £42 million transfer. Unai Emery and his contingent will be grateful to sporting director Monchi and director of football operations Damian Vidagany for making sure that the club did not face any unnecessary setbacks.

Many fans believe that Villa are top four contenders after making several signings to bolster both their attack amd defence. Emery and co. will look to atleast secure a European spot with the newly reinforced squad. As things stand, the Villans are currently seventh in the League table and take on Everton after the international break.
