Rafael Nadal
20-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal is out of action since the last 3 months due to a foot injury. He hasn’t had a good season by his standards despite winning two important clay court titles. His best performance in majors came at the French Open where he reached the semifinals before losing to Novak Djokovic.
Nadal has now fully recovered and is all set to compete at Abu Dhabi in an exhibition event before travelling to Australia for the Australian Open. Latest, Rafa arrived in Kuwait on Sunday where he is expected to visit the Rafa Nadal academy before headling to Abu Dhabi.
The official Instagram account of the Rafa Nadal Academy in Kuwait posted a story of Rafa walking out of the airport. It was assumed beforehand that Rafa would travel to Kuwait before Abu Dhabi given he runs a academy in the Gulf country.
There is no specific information as to why Rafa is visiting Kuwait but it is safe to say that he’s travelling to monitor the activities of his academy and interact with some students.
Nadal all set to stage a comeback at Abu Dhabi
Nadal will play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship before starting his 2022 season. He will step on the court for the first time in over 3 months and has been handed a bye in the first match. He will face the winner of Andy Murray vs Dominic Thiem in the opener and could face top seed Andrey Rublev in the final match.
After Abu Dhabi, he will travel to Australia and will play the ATP 250 event in Melbourne to kick off his season. His main target will be to win a record 21st slam in Melbourne itself.
