Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia went undrafted with teams apparently put off by his 5'10" height and brash personality.

- Diego Pavia signed a three-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens before his scheduled tryout.
- Fans expressed confusion over the Ravens' decision to sign an undrafted quarterback without a tryout.
- The Ravens also signed undrafted UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano, adding to their roster of quarterbacks.
Diego Pavia has experienced major growth as a football player, soaring from Division II football to eventually becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Such accomplishments, along with his other college awards, would generally lead teams to have interest in him. After all, it is difficult to find quarterbacks who have the mindset that someone like the Albuquerque native possesses.
But his 5’10” height, his attitude, and slow 40-yard dash times put teams off. It was more about the former, as shorter QBs have historically struggled in the NFL. That explains why he went undrafted.
Then, the Baltimore Ravens came calling, and the 24-year-old was invited for a tryout later this week. They probably wanted to see whether the Vanderbilt alum has what it takes to overcome his physical shortcomings.
As soon as this announcement came about, it was rumored that a host of other teams were sending out invitations for tryouts. Such interest can greatly improve the said players’ prospects of finding a job.

This means that even before Diego Pavia threw a ball at his scheduled tryouts, the Ravens decided he was good enough to be offered a three-year contract.
Fans shake their heads after Ravens sign Diego Pavia
The Los Angeles Rams kept their interest in Ty Simpson quiet to avoid other teams from being curious about the Alabama QB. That plan worked.
In this instance, fans believe the Ravens have been forced to make this move after their interest in the undrafted Diego Pavia generated enough buzz for other teams to take note.
Despite that, fans felt this was a bizarre move, as the franchise could have at least let the QB go through his paces before locking him inside their locker room. Check out examples of those confused reactions below.
not saying it won’t work, but this feels like a decision made at 1% battery

And the Ravens Give a 3-year bag
To a 5'11" UDFA Who lost to UNLV last year 😂😂
Every QB Who got drafted Should be furious.Your GM thinks A Vandy walk-on
Is worth more Than your arm😳
This is still a development gamble no matter how it’s framed

I have loved and understood everything EDC has done this offseason, up until this.

Now way lol , have they met him’ he’s is the opposite of the Ravens culture and mind set. But hell prove us wrong.

The most Ravens thing ever. No interest in him after the draft then invite him in because why not. Two days later he gets a three year deal!

32 teams passed on this man and the Ravens said perfect, exactly who we wanted 😤

Decosta can't stop making poor decisions.

The Baltimore Ravens have Lamar Jackson leading their team, which means that unless he is injured, it is next to impossible for Diego Pavia to get a few reps. That is why it felt even more bizarre for the organization to hand the undrafted rookie a job this early.
Diego Pavia is not the Ravens’ only undrafted QB
If fans felt that handing Diego Pavia a three-year contract was a bonehead move, they would go into a state of shock once they know that the Baltimore Ravens were not done signing undrafted signal callers.

The Ravens are signing undrafted UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano, per source. Fagnano threw for nearly 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns last season for the Huskies.

Joe Fagnano had a stellar year at UConn, which may have led the Ravens to believe he, too, deserves a shot. The Huskies alum is listed at 6’3″-6’4″.

Fagnano threw for nearly 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns last season for the Huskies.
But the Pennsylvania native has been in college for seven years. Therefore, the franchise may be looking at his experience and stability compared to Diego Pavia, who has potential to improve.
