The La Liga giants have been showing interest in signing Mbappe for months now. But due to the financial crisis because of the COVID pandemic, Madrid could not splash the cash in this transfer window. According to the reports of Marca, Madrid are keen to sign Mbappe from PSG in the future. But they are also targeting Erling Braut Haaland as Mbappe’s alternative if the deal fails.

It is to be noted that Erling Haaland also has a £63million release clause in his contract. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has stood up for the Spanish giants since Ronaldo left. Benzema has been in great form off late and would love to continue the same going forward. But it is also to be noted that Benzema is turning 33 in December which is the fact why Madrid are looking to sign a young forward to replace Benzema in the future. The other option Madrid has is Luka Jovic who has failed to make a mark at Santiago Bernabeu.

Hence Real Madrid is keen to sign Haaland in case the Mbappe deal fails. Haaland is seen by many as a better alternative to Mbappe as he is much cheaper than the Frenchman. Haaland recently bagged a hat-trick against Romania in the UEFA Nations League. The 20-year-old was heavily linked to an Old Trafford move last transfer window. Reports suggest that Manchester United could still compete with Real Madrid to sign the Norwegian.
