Reporter Gives Brutal Reality Check to Cam Ward Over “Very Good Quarterback” Remark
Titans reporter confronted Cam Ward after he called himself a very good quarterback despite winning just 3 games in 16 NFL appearances.

Cam Ward is learning what it means to be the face of an NFL franchise, on and off the field. So far, the former first overall pick of the Tennessee Titans is lagging in his development.
Last week, the second-year signal caller lost his 15th game as the Titans starter. Ward completed just under 60% of his passes for 140 yards and threw a non-factor touchdown in the final minutes.
Despite the string of defeats, Ward, on Thursday, branded himself as a “very good quarterback” and admitted he needs to improve in some areas.
I think I’m a very good quarterback. I think I do a lot of things differently that a lot of quarterbacks can’t do, and it’s also stuff that I have to get better at, as some things that I lack. That’s a process that you take on each and every day. I have great coaches around me to continue to push me to that level that I want to play at, and when the tide turns, I’m pretty sure you know it’s gonna be a different story.
Cam Ward said in Wednesday’s presser
When Ward was finished explaining, media member Paul Kuharsky would challenge, asking, “Doesn’t a very good NFL quarterback have better results than you have?” Instead of a condescending reply, Ward calmly continued that wins are a collective effort and everyone has to chip in.
It comes with the defense you’re playing. It comes with what the DC’s [Defensive Coordinator] philosophy is, and every game is not gonna be a shootout.

Cam is 3-15 as a starter. He was dead last in QBR in 2025. He is 26th in QBR this year. He was dead last in PFF passing grade in 2025, 107 of 108 in the 2026 preseason and 26th after Week 1. (Video: @Titans) pic.twitter.com/891j2eldVD
The Titans hosted the New York Jets on opening day. A lot rode on the outcome. On one hand, it was a chance for Ward to silence his critics and a chance for Robert Saleh to get his revenge after the Big Apple franchise fired him less than two years earlier. The Titans defense allowed two touchdowns, while the offense gained 195 total yards.
Last year, the Titans drafted Ward first overall instead of Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Shough. Ward delivered just three wins all year. According to Pro Football Focus, Ward had the league’s worst QBR among starting quarterbacks. He was 32nd in passer rating. He is already 26th in QBR in 2026. Ward completed 59.8% of his passes for 3169 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. He took 55 sacks and gave up 410 yards.
Robert Saleh gives his verdict on Cam Ward after opening day defeat to the Jets
As it was a home game, the Titans held a slight advantage at kickoff. But that doesn’t mean the Titans are guaranteed to win. Last year, they were 4-5 against the spread. So, at the back of everyone’s mind, there was doubt regarding Ward and the team’s performance, even if it was the Jets.

The Jets won convincingly. Ward was already under a lot of scrutiny; the defeat only amplified it further. Robert Saleh didn’t mince words about his team’s performance during Tuesday’s Zoom call.
They’re all a work in progress… Every single player is…even the veterans have a lot of work to do. There’s a lot of things that we’ve got to clean up. I’m not trying to shield the quarterback.
Saleh said
Saleh noted that Ward has had seven coordinators over the past seven years, dating back to his time with Incarnate Ward in the FCS. Saleh urged fans to exercise patience as Ward continues to grow.
#Titans HC Robert Saleh says Cam Ward has had 7 OCs in 7 years, and the team wants to provide him with stability. As a result, there’s a lot of growth that has yet to happen.

This was in response to a question about whether Ward is more of a work in progress than expected. pic.twitter.com/pjkij0QfhY
Sure, he threw the most passing yards during his senior year in Miami, but college and the pro game are very different. It takes time for a young quarterback to learn all the X’s and O’s, irrespective of their draft position. A good example is the Las Vegas Raiders, who took CFP champion Fernando Mendoza first overall this year, but Mendoza is starting as the backup to Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately, the Titans didn’t have the luxury. They banked on Ward to be elite from day one. It hasn’t panned out the way they had hoped.
