Being employed with AEW doesn’t mean one can’t support their friends at a rival promotion like WWE, and vice versa. That being said, former AEW Tag Team Champion Ricky Starks is no exception. The fans might be wondering about his whereabouts on AEW television, which, by the way, has nothing to do with him being injured. Starks refuted such claims in a recent interview with What Culture while addressing why he attended WrestleMania XL.
The 34-year-old said he was there for a couple of his former co-workers, viz., Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill. Ricky asserted that he had a ball in Philadelphia, seeing his buddies making moves. Starks also added that he doesn’t believe in tribalism, a locution that’s in vogue nowadays. Nonetheless, once the Stroke Daddy navigated past the construed illusion among the fans who demarcate talents as company-exclusive property, he shed some more light on the past.
Last year, in January, Ricky Starks was caught on camera entering the Alamodome with Cody Rhodes for the Royal Rumble. The American Nightmare punched his ticket to WrestleMania that night. A few days after the show, the security footage of Starks entering the arena sparked a row among fans on the internet.
I don’t believe in that tribalism bullshit. You got people who’ve never been in wrestling that try to push that agenda, but I don’t care. When I went to go see Cody at the Rumble, someone leaked the security footage. It’s not like I was trying to be seen.Ricky Starks via What Culture
The Absolute One affirmed that someone leaked the video online, and it wasn’t meant to be that way. The Louisiana native also stressed that he wasn’t trying to stage a publicity stunt. Instead, he was just there to partake in the glory of his friend, Cody. In the aforementioned conversation, the former FTW Champion stated that Rhodes has done more for him than he could’ve asked anyone to do.
Why is WWE delaying the release of WrestleMania XL documentary?
A few weeks ago, WWE promised to dispense a documentary with all the behind-the-scenes drama encompassing WrestleMania XL. More than a month has come and gone, but the advertised material has yet to be released. PWInsider had a rationale behind the delay. The outlet reported that the documentary is believed by some to be awaiting an official nod from The Rock.
However, the latter’s business partner, Brian Gewirtz, has debunked the story. Everyone knows how The Great One was the epicenter of the single-most dramatic pivot in plans WWE ever made en route to WrestleMania.
It was supposed to be the Black Adam star’s turn to face Roman Reigns in that much-awaited dream match at The Show of Shows. However, the fans staged an unprecedented uproar to force the decision makers to resort to The American Nightmare for a main event spot that he rightfully earned.
