Roma defender Rick Karsdorp leaves the city after being left out and transfer listed by manager Jose Mourinho

Following Roma’s defeat against Sassuolo last week, Jose Mourinho made headlines. The Portuguese coach directly attributed his team’s goal conceded on one of his players. He did not mention the name of the player, although many believed it to be Rick Karsdorp. The Dutchman, according to Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport, was the player Mourinho was not pleased with.

Following the game against Sassuolo, Mourinho stated: “It was a team that wanted to win against a tough opponent, I am sorry that the efforts of the team were betrayed by the attitude of one unprofessional player. An unprofessional attitude that is not fair to his teammates, that is what disappoints me. A point away from home is still not a negative result and I am happy with the general attitude of my squad.”

He added: “I won’t tell you. I had 16 players on the field tonight and I liked the attitude of 15 of them. In January, he needs to find himself another club.” Karsdorp has already been left out of Mourinho’s squad for the game against Torino in response to this astonishing public statement.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Karsdorp has already departed the city. He tweeted: “Mourinho three days ago: “There’s a player who betrayed everyone else’s effort, I told him to find a new club by January. Mourinho today: ‘I decided not to call up Karsdorp today and he knows why. It’s my decision’. Karsdorp has already left the city with his family today.”

Johan Henkes, the agent for the 27-year-old, responded to Mourinho’s remarks. Henkes reportedly responded as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’m surprised by Mourinho’s words, I want an explanation. We’re also surprised by the fact that everyone’s been pointing fingers at Rick despite neither Mourinho or Roma uttered his name.

We want an explanation from the club about the coach’s words and the way he did it,” he added. Following his dismissal during Roma’s match against Torino, Mourinho found himself in the spotlight once more. A 1-1 draw was rescued by a late goal in stoppage time from Nemanja Matic.
