Had it not been for unforeseen circumstances, Roman Reigns would've gone on to battle Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 40.

When Cody Rhodes stepped aside for The Rock so that the latter could gobble up his WrestleMania spot with Roman Reigns, the WWE Universe went ballistic. After an unprecedented uproar by the fans who slammed the Hollywood actor for satiating his ego, WWE changed their plans. Rhodes’ date with Reigns eventually went through, and anything less could’ve been a catastrophe.
But how does Roman feel about it? Is there a part of him that’s upset over the fact that his long-awaited dream match with The Rock didn’t happen? Speaking to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated, The OTC said none of that mattered to him. Until he’s headlining the show, which he was, it doesn’t bother him who he’s up against.
Reigns affirmed that whatever turmoil unfolded en route to ‘Mania XL, one thing was common—everyone wanted a piece of him. As for what it was, the erstwhile Tribal Chief joined forces with his Hollywood cousin for the first time ever in a WWE ring. The Samoan stalwarts took out Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night 1.
I was the main event no matter what. I’m the guy everybody wanted to dance with. I’m the hot chick, everybody wanna take me out.

That added a Bloodline Rules stipulation to Sunday’s curtain drawer—Reigns vs. Rhodes II. Cody overcame the odds to trump the 1316-day title reign of Reigns. There’s an update on if WWE is planning Rock vs. Roman at next year’s WrestleMania. Per WrestleVotes, if that’s the plan, then Rhodes will be involved in a major feud that may close out the first night.
It’s still very much possible that the Black Adam star may end up picking a fight with Rhodes when he does come back. The American Nightmare has stated in recent interviews that he’s got lingering tension with Dwayne Johnson and they’re yet to debrief on a bumpy WrestleMania ride.
Why did Roman Reigns not greet Cody Rhodes after their WrestleMania match?
After getting Roman Reigns‘ shoulders pinned to the mat for the three-count at WrestleMania XL, Cody Rhodes scripted history. He became the first Rhodes to ever hold a world title; something that remained a pipe dream for his late father, Dusty Rhodes.

It was obvious Cody needed some time to let that sink in. As a result, he kept greeting everyone for a few hours, even after the show was over. In one of the interviews, The Prodigal Son revealed that he also wanted to see Reigns afterwards.
However, by the time Rhodes got backstage, Roman had already left the place. Touching on that, The Head of the Table told SI that first off, there was no need for that. And more importantly, he wasn’t going to wait for someone that long.
