Fijian striker Roy Krishna renews his contract with ISL club ATK Mohun Bagan
High profile forward Roy Krishna puts all rumour surrounding him to bed after signing a mega contract extension with ATK Mohun Bagan, keeping him at the club for another year.
Fijian Roy Krishna has been the star of the ATK Mohun Bagan attack for the last two years, netting a whooping 14 goals in 23 games last season in 2020, as the green and maroon finished second in the Indian Super League, also losing out in the league final to Mumbai City FC later on. Krishna was also awarded the ‘Hero Of the League’ award following his stellar performance in the 2020-21 season.

It was previously looking likely that Roy Krishna was looking for newer options, with Mumbai City FC keenly interested in his services. However, all these rumors have been answered now, as Krishna signs a contract extension with the Kolkata based franchise.
“Good Morning, Mariners! (Here’s) The news that you all are waiting for – Roy stays in the City of Joy!” ATK Mohun Bagan announced in a tweet on Thursday, July 29, a remarkable date which is also incidentally celebrated as ‘Mohun Bagan Day’.
The rumors linking Roy to another top ISL club intensified this summer, more after ATKMB snatched Mumbai City’s main man and one of ISL’s top performer Spaniard Hugo Boumous. Mumbai City were on the lookout to snatch up ATK Mohun Bagan‘s Krishna to make amends, but now all speculations has come to a standstill after Roy signed a contract extension with the club.
Roy Krishna’s won the Indian Super League trophy in his first stint with ATK in 2019, ending the season with remarkable numbers of 15 goals and 6 assists to his name in 21 appearances.
One of the key things every ATK Mohun Bagan fan will be looking forward to is the chemistry between Hugo Boumous and Roy Krishna in coming weeks in AFC Cup and 2021-22 season of Hero ISL.
“I am honoured to declare on a special day that I will be on the field again wearing the Green-Maroon jersey. I hope the members-supporters of the club will be happy and will support me like before,” said Roy Krishna in his interview to ATKMB Media.
“I was a little hesitant to come here because of the COVID-19 situation. But after the club management assured me and my family of safety, I signed the new contract.”
“For the first time in my life, I will play in the AFC Cup. All the teams will be well prepared for this tournament. We will also try our best to win all the matches. Our goal will be to go to the next round. We have a great opportunity to establish the club in Asia. I am confident we will do well in this tournament.” Krishna added, speaking about his ambitions in the upcoming season.
The Mariners have already started to make a strong team on paper, as they have completed the signings of Amrinder Singh, Liston Colaco, Deepak Tangri, Ashutosh Mehta and Bidyananda Singh alongside foreigners 2020 Euro Cupper Joni Kauko and Hugo Boumous and on the other side handed out contract extensions Carl McHugh David Williams and now Roy Krishna.
ATKMB will be beginning their AFC Cup campaign next month and are placed alongside Maziya S&RC and Bashundhara Kings in Group D, with winners of Bengaluru FC vs Club Eagles playoff match to join them as the fourth team.
