In Short
  • Ryan Day is accused of having a romantic involvement with the mother of a 2027 quarterback recruit.
  • The recruit in question committed to a rival Big Ten school, not Ohio State.
  • Day is currently focused on recruiting two quarterbacks from the 2027 class.

The Michigan-Ohio State rivalry runs deep. So much so that a Michigan insider/fan did not hesitate to accuse the Buckeyes head coach, Ryan Day, of adultery.

James T. Yoder, founder of Chat Sports, host of the Michigan Football Report on YouTube, tweeted a wild story about the 47-year-old Day on May 11. According to Yoder’s sources, Day has secretly dated the mother of one of the 2027 quarterback recruits that the Buckeyes wanted to sign, but he committed to a rival Big 10 school.

According to Yoder, Day’s affair is an open secret. Yoder tweeted:

Everybody knew, they weren’t even trying to hide it.

Caleb Houser of SB Nation via Yahoo Sports narrowed down Ohio State’s QB wish list to three high school graduates. The first name on the list is a four-star Florida quarterback named Champ Monds. However, Monds committed to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Day and the Buckeyes are monitoring a second four-star quarterback by the name of Trae Taylor. Then again, it’s very unlikely Taylor will agree to flip to the 2024 CFP champions, as he has already verbally committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2025.

The last name on the list is Brady Edmunds, a highly rated quarterback from California, who has family ties to the Buckeyes. He is most likely to choose Ohio State. But Day is eager to add a total of two quarterbacks from the 2027 class.

Currently, the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes is Julian Sayin, who finished fourth in the Heisman voting in 2025. Sayin played every game for the Buckeyes during his sophomore year. He completed 301 passes from 391 attempts for 3610 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

What is the name of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day’s wife?

Day is married to Christina Ourania Spirou, whom he calls Nina. They first met when she was seven, and he was six years old. They tied the knot in June 2005. Day and Nina have three children: son RJ Day, and two daughters, Grace and Nia.

Day grew up in a single-parent household after his father committed suicide. Later, he and Nina decided to establish a mental health awareness organization called On Our Sleeves, a movement that began in nationwide children’s hospitals.

In 2019, the pair launched The Christina and Ryan Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness. Three years later, in 2022, Nina and Day launched the Nina and Ryan Day Resilience Fund with a $1 million gift to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine.

Ryan Day will face his son in college football

RJ Day graduated from St. Francis DeSales in Columbus and is part of the 2027 recruitment class. Hayes Fawcett of On3.com reported that Day Jr. has decided to commit to the University of Northwestern Wildcats. It means junior will get the chance to play against his father’s Buckeyes down the line. He chose the Wildcats over Purdue, Cincinnati, USF, and Syracuse.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, RJ Day is currently ranked as the 86th-best quarterback in the class of 2027. He is also the No. 1,361 overall player.
