Ryan Garcia is set to headline a star-studded boxing card featuring notable fighters like Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and many others. ‘KingRy’ is scheduled to face the former WBA super lightweight champion, Rolando “Rolly” Romero. Given the number of high-stakes matchups, Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts on how the event will unfold.
Oscar De La Hoya is the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions and the promoter of 26-year-old boxer Ryan Garcia. They have been partners for five years, and De La Hoya is well aware of the value and attention Garcia brings to fight events. For this reason, when asked about the estimated attendance for an upcoming event, De La Hoya provided a substantial number.
We’re expecting half a million people, just watching in Times Square. It’s going to be incredible.

The event is set to take place as part of Ring Magazine’s first-ever boxing card. Since entering the professional boxing world, Saudi GEA chairman Turki Alalshikh has made significant strides that have allowed the boxing community to thrive once again.
High-profile events, such as the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fights, were notably successful. Furthermore, since Alalshikh took over Ring Magazine to revitalize it, he has played a key role in supporting Garcia’s upcoming fight against Romero.

Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought for almost a year. His last match was in April 2024 against Devin Haney, which was filled with exciting moments. Although Garcia initially won that fight, it was later declared a no-contest due to his positive test for banned substances. As a result, he received a one-year ban from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).
Eddie Hearn builds the anticipation for Ryan Garcia’s return boxing match
Ryan Garcia is considered one of the most promising boxing superstars and once had an unblemished record in professional boxing. However, during his fight against Gervonta Davis in April 2023, Garcia suffered the first defeat of his career. Interestingly, even though ‘KingRy’ lost the fight, both he and Davis received substantial payouts.

Notably, in boxing history, the fight between Garcia and Davis ranks among the top 10 highest-grossing pay-per-view (PPV) events, with 1.2 million PPV buys. In contrast, the bout between the 26-year-old American boxer and Haney did not achieve the expected level of success. However, like Oscar De La Hoya, Eddie Hearn believes that Garcia’s upcoming fight could be a significant success.

Despite having faced numerous formidable challenges in his professional boxing career, Garcia’s upcoming opponent has a reputation of his own. The former WBA super lightweight champion, Rolly Romero, has the majority of his victories coming by way of knockouts. Now, it remains to be seen whose knockout ability will prevail at Times Square on May 5.
