On Wednesday, defending champion Lakshya Sen withdrew after his father-cum-coach, D K Sen, tested positive for Covid 19. Now, his fellow Indian shuttlers, Ajay Jayaram and Shubhankar Dey, have been forced out of the tournament for coming in contact with D K Sen.
“BWF can confirm three players have been withdrawn from the SaarLorLux Open 2020 as a precautionary measure for all participants after they were in contact with a member of their team entourage who tested positive for COVID-19,” The Badminton World Federation (BWF) said in a statement.
“The three players: Lakshya Sen, Ajay Jayaram and Subhankar Dey will not compete further in the tournament, which began on Tuesday,” BWF added further.
SaarLorLux: All three players and the team entourage put into isolation
Lakshya, Ajay and Shubhankar had tested negative to the dreaded Covid19 virus ahead of the tournament.
BWF further added that all three players and the team entourage have been placed into isolation “in line with directives from tournament organisers, local health authorities and BWF tournament health protocols.“
Lakshya Sen was not only the defending champion of this tournament but had also claimed five titles in the senior circuit last year, including BWF 100 top honours and Dutch Open. He had received a bye in the opening round along with Shubhankar Dey. Ajay Jayaram had won his opening round clash on Monday.
