Saquon Barkley, the star running back who joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a powerful offensive weapon seems to have encountered a big mishap in his personal life, as his father was allegedly caught having possessions of a fully loaded gun in New York City.
As per The New York City Police Department via TMZ Sports, Saquon’s father Alibay Barkley was arrested on Wednesday for having a fully loaded gun in his car as he was driving in the Bronx.
He was initially pulled over for “obstructed license plates that did not match the vehicle,” but as the police checked the vehicle, they found an unregistered firearm. Although he was released from police custody on Thursday, he has been booked for several criminal charges, including possession of a weapon-loaded firearm.
Although the firearm has been taken under police custody, it remains unclear if Alibay had someone in the car when he was arrested. So far, no additional details have been released regarding the arrest or the charges.
The star running back also has not made any comment regarding his father’s arrest, whom he previously called his “biggest fan” and supporter during an interview a year ago.
How Saquon Barkley’s father’s history shaped his future
This isn’t the first time Saquon’s father has been arrested on a gun-related charge. He seemed to have a history with it and also has served time in prison. The running back himself revealed this during an interview with Mike Ross of Lancaster Online.
Alibay was arrested at the age of 19 on a gun-related charge and had to serve time in Riker Island prison for one year along with probation, after being found guilty on the alleged charges.
You have to respect him as a man. A lot of people can’t look their kids in the face and tell them the decisions that they made were awful and the mistakes they made were bad. That helped me.said Saquon Barkley
Saquon shared this story to reflect the bond he and unlike other parents, his father shared the wrong decisions of his life with his child and taught him valuable lessons of not making the same mistakes as him.
