The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a below-par Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year as they finished outside the playoff spots for the first time ever in their history. Their batting didn’t look up to the mark and the bowling only shone on some occasions as they ended up 7th, narrowly avoiding the wooden spoon thanks to a late resurgence in the last three matches sparked by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Another side that had a below-par IPL season was Rajasthan Royals (RR) which finished with the wooden spoon despite having a good start to the tournament. This year, both CSK and RR have made some smart buys at the auction and would fancy their chances of making it to the playoffs this time around.

New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris who was a part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the past has made his early predictions for the IPL season. He took to Twitter to release his ‘Way too early power rankings’ and expectedly had Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the top two and the finalists of last year as the top two this year as well.

He then had Punjab Kings at third due to their good auction performance. He chose Sunrisers Hyderabad for the fourth spot while predicting that Royal Challengers Bangalore would miss. Rajasthan Royals were sixth while Kolkata Knight Riders were seventh due to ‘batting worries’. The final team was Chennai Super Kings themselves.

Rajasthan Royals reacted to the same with a hilarious meme with the template, “Control Uday… Control”

The IPL begins on the 9th of April with a match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
