Three times Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen has become one of the fan favourite drivers in the series within less than two years. He announced himself to the NASCAR nation by winning the inaugural Chicago Street Race and that helped him land a development driver contract, along with a full-time Xfinity Series seat in 2025.
He is currently driving in the second tier competing for championship with Kaulig Racing and also has part-time Cup outing scheduled with Trackhosue as part of his training. Shane van Gisbergen has continued is fine form from previous season and is already in the Xfinity Series playoff following his win last week at Portland.
Ahead of the Xfinity Series race this week at Sonoma, the Kiwi driver discussed his plans for the 2025 season. He pointed out that the plan is still to move into full-time Cup racing next-season as he moved to US because of it and asserted that he hasn’t received any confirmation from Trackhosue that isn’t the plan for him.
That’s why I moved here, right. I haven’t been told that’s not the plan but no confirmation yet either.Shane van Gisbergen said via Sportsnaut.
Shane van Gisbergen breaks down his new signature celebration
SVG debuted his new signature calibration last week at Portland after the win. He signed a rugby ball and kicked it to the stands. Rugby has a special place in everyone from New Zealand. He like his teammates now have signature celebration, as Daniel Suarez has the tradition of breaking the pinata and Ross Chastain’s watermelon smash.
That was someone’s idea at Trackhouse. We all have our individual celebration now I guess. I was trying to think of something to do that is special to New Zealand, I guess, so that was cool. I was just happy that I didn’t butcher the kick. It went pretty well.Shane van Gisbergen said.
Trackhosue has a huge task on their hand going into the 2025 season. They have to find seats for both SVG and Zane Smith in the Cup series. It would be interesting to see how Justin Marks and co will navigate this situation.
