Oleksandr Usyk‘s victory over Tyson Fury in the heavyweight match thrilled a lot of fight fans, including Shannon Sharpe. Fury failed to defend his belt against Usyk and lost the bout in a close clash. However, the Brit was not satisfied and voiced it with one of the most ridiculous objections. 

According to ‘The Gypsy King’, the judges and the fans were sympathetic towards Oleksandr Usyk due to the war going on in Ukraine. However, it didn’t sit well with Shannon Sharpe at all. 

Don't do that. Don't undermine the man. The man whooped your a**... He's fighting for a bigger purpose. He beat you Fury, he beat you fair and square.

Following his war with Fury, Usyk emerged as the first undisputed heavyweight champion in twenty-five years. The Ukrainian received scorecards of 115-112 and 114-113, while Fury received a score of 114-113 from a third judge. Hence, leading to a split decision.

Usyk was naturally the smaller fighter however, it didn’t stop him from almost defeating a much heavier Tyson Fury. It was a massive victory for Usyk who couldn’t control his tears at the post-fight press conference. For the boxer and his country, winning the match was extremely important. Something, the legendary Wladimir Klitschko also agreed to.

The tensions regarding territorial disputes between Russia and Ukraine are still high. During this, the love for his nation was something that might have motivated Oleksandr Usyk for his title fight. With Ukraine’s rich boxing culture, many fans eagerly supported Usyk during the fight.

While talking about it, Wladimir Klitschko revealed that Usyk had a lot of pressure on him. According to the former champion, Usyk fought the bout for his fellow Ukrainians and came out victorious. 

Just imagine how much pressure was out there for Oleksandr. He was representing himself but more and most importantly he was representing the country. This win is extremely important for us Ukrainians. Ukraine was watching that fight.

Klitschko is said to have given Usyk a lot of assistance throughout his fight camp. The boxer also disclosed that he had asked Klitschko for advice before the fight. Ahead of the bout, Fury made fun of Usyk for following Klitschko’s advice. On the other hand, it appears like things have drastically changed. Nevertheless, boxing enthusiasts enjoyed watching it since it was a fantastic bout.
