Despite getting backlash from fans, Draymond Green takes another swipe at Rudy Gobert, and had Shaquille O'Neal for company

Draymond Green has received a lot of backlash lately for criticizing Rudy Gobert. His criticisms have come from the fact that he had once held the Defensive Player of the Year in a chokehold. He has also made it a habit of taking shots at the Frenchmen. Today, he went after the Minnesota Timberwolves star again and had Shaquille O’Neal for company.

It is no secret now that Gobert struggled to contain Nikola Jokic. Jokic joined Chris Paul to be the only players in NBA history to notch up 40+ points, 10+ assists and 0 turnovers in a playoff game. To this, Draymond Green took another jibe, saying:

There's an interesting thing about this stat though. You know what's interesting when Chris Paul had those numbers. There was a common denominator. It was the Rudy Gobert led Jazz then. It's true.

He's telling the truth. He probably won Defensive Player that year too.

To this diss, the other panel members were trying to stop Green. They felt he was just going off on Gobert like he usually does.

This was another chance the Golden State Warriors superstar had to take a shot at Rudy Gobert. The others on the panel thought it was just some fake stat. However, it turns out to be true. In that game, Chris Paul put up those numbers against the Utah Jazz, which ironically had Gobert as their defensive lynchpin.

It also turns out to be that O’Neal’s prediction is also true. The Frenchman won his first DPOY award that year. Even though this was not meant to be a diss, it ended up being true.

Draymond Green and his history with Rudy Gobert

This is a long in line of swipes Draymond Green has taken at Rudy Gobert. Green has often considered Gobert as not being a DPOY contender. His logic is that Gobert just blocks shots. He does not alter the game with the defense. Something that the 4-time Champion has built a reputation for. Then that dislike started to spill over in the form of trolls, both on the court and off.

Over the years Green has been trolling the 7′ 1″ Frenchman for not coming up clutch. This hate was also the subject of interest when Green choked the Minnesota Timberwolves star. The Frenchman’s response to that incident also ticked him off.

No wonder when the stats were pulled up Draymond Green could not hold back. It seems this war of words will continue as they both continue to ply their trade on the basketball court.
