BREAKING: Simone Biles Pulls Out of Individual All Around Finals Over Mental Health Concerns

Simone Biles

In shocking news today, defending champion Simone Biles will not be competing at the women’s individual all around finals at the Tokyo Olympics this year. She has pulled out of the competition just 1 day before the finals were scheduled to take place.

Simone had a shaky start to her Tokyo Olympics in the qualification round, as she made a few uncharacteristic errors in her routines, yet managed to finish in first place. In the team all around finals, where USA qualified second behind ROC, Simone was not her usual self. She took a big step on one of her strongest events, the vault, managing to only score of 13.766. She left the competition floor soon after, and the Jordan Chiles was already getting ready to replace her in the Second rotation.

Biles came out soon after and announced that she would not be competing any more with the team in the finals. Later she spoke candidly about why she pulled out, citing that her mental health was not good. She said she did not want to do anything silly, and that sometimes she felt like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. There were several speculations as to whether Biles would compete in the individual all around finals, as she would have to be given proper medical clearance in order to do so.
