Mikaela Pauline Shiffrin, the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history is the recipient of a 2-time Olympics gold medal and 4-time overall World Cup Champion. Furthermore, she won the World Championships 4 times in slalom, while receiving the World Cup discipline title 6-times in the event.

Born in a family of ski racers, Mikaela without a doubt grew up loving the sport and becoming a core part of the process. Her mother Eileen and her father Jeff grew up to be her role models. At the young age of 14, she defeated skiers from 40 nations in 2010, winning both the slalom and the GS at Topolino Games in Italy.

Following her success, Mikaela won the slalom bronze medal at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships. Her success news started spreading all over the skier’s community, and in 2015 she noted that ski racers Janica Kostelic and Bode Miller were her idols while growing up apart from her parents.

Starting with her world debut on March 11, 2011, Mikaela Shiffrin won the US National Championships title and claimed the national alpine crown. Her stage was already set, as she scooped up titles and victories wherever she landed. 

She took part in the 2012 Alpine Skiing World Cup where she ended up securing the 3rd place after losing her left shin guard halfway down. Her first World Cup win came in 2012 in Sweden. She became the 2nd youngest to win the title, behind Judy Nagel.

In 2014 she was named to the ESPNW’s Impact 25 and ended the season as a reigning Olympic, World Cup, and World Champion in Slalom. In 2017 Mikaela received the title “Skieur d’Or” because of her terrific performance throughout the year.

On December 2, 2018, she became the only skier ever to win the 6 alpine skiing discipline titles. Even Lindsey Vonn or Tina Maze never won a parallel slalom race since its debut in the skiing world. In 2021, she became the most successful American alpine skier in World Championships.

Mikaela won her 6th gold and 9th medal surpassing the record of 5 WCH gold medals won by Ted Ligety and 8 WCH medals won by Lindsey Vonn. Last year has seen a bit of pause in Mikaela’s career while she secured the 4th spot as part of the US Team.

Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin has been dating Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and is often referred to as the “power couple” of the skiing world. Kilde the former football player and Norwegian World Cup alpine skier met Mikaela 6-7 years ago. It was most probably around the FIS Alpine Ski World Competition, though it’s just a speculation and not a fact.

According to reports it was Kilde who made the first move, but the Olympic champion turned him down. Mikaela noted, “We met somewhere around seven years ago, and I think he started the conversation by saying ‘Hi.’” 

“He also sent the first friend request. He technically asked me on a date later that year, but I sort of denied him. I thought I was being cute, but he seems to have taken it as a rejection.”

It wasn’t until 2021 that the duo started taking things seriously. In May of that year, they broke the news on Instagram while posing happily together. In the caption, Kilde noted, “If you know, you know…and now you know”. Since then they’ve been posting selfies on their social media account, showcasing their power bond to their fans.

Mikaela lives in Vail, Colorado, USA. In the series “At Home with Natalie”, the Olympic skier gave a tour of her home “Sanctuary”.  The interior designers, made her dream home come true, as she notes that she is still “pinching” herself on how happy she is to call it her home.

Mikaela even called her own bedroom “lair”. She explained that she was inspired by certain European design styles which she wanted to incorporate in her new home.
