“Soon” 3-time Grand Slam Champion Stan Wawrinka Reveals Shocking Retirement Plan
Stan Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka rose at the top of the ranks during the domination of some of the greatest players in history. Apart from Andy Murray, he is the only other man who has won more than 1 Grand Slam during the reign of ‘The Big Three.’ Wawrinka has defeated the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to lay claim to his 3 Grand Slam titles.

Even though Wawrinka has remained dominant on the tour, he does not reach the final stages of tournaments quite as often as he used to. Recently, he vanquished former World No.1 Andy Murray in straight sets at the French Open 2020. This gave ‘Stan The Man’ a boost of confidence. However, he was ousted by 20-yr-old Hugo Gaston in the third round.

After that, Wawrinka managed to reach the quarter-finals of St.Petersburg Open, but lost to Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 7-5.

The Former World No.3 just won one event this year, a challenger in Prague. In contrast, he reached many semi-finals and quarter-finals, the latter coming at the Australian Open. Wawrinka is undoubtedly better off than most players. However, this does not halt the questions of retirement that come his way.

Recently, the 35-yr-old put an “Ask me a question” on his Instagram story. To this, one person asked the Swiss a dreaded question. The person asked if the Swiss player was considering to retire at any point.

To this, Wawrinka replied, “Soon, don’t worry.”

This is certainly a shocking statement. The Swiss player also added a ‘thumbs up’ picture in the background of this response. Stan made it clear that retirement was a topic he had thought in depth about. Unfortunately, it won’t be long before he hangs up his racquet for good.
