The New York Mets drowned in beer on Monday in celebration of the team clinching a playoff berth following a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. Francisco Lindor’s HR sent the team to the October games and the team won 8-7  in a thrilling victory.

Lindor said after the home run everything “felt like slow motion” and this incredible moment was celebrated wildly by every member of the organization. Even team owner Steve Cohen stood on the top step of the dugout to greet Edwin Diaz and Francisco Lindor after securing the playoff berth.

He hugged both of the players and stated the entire game was a huge “roller coaster” ride. He even expressed that he was in “tears” to witness the franchise grab a chance at the playoffs after a grinding regular season.

I have never seen anything like it – it was a roller coaster. I was in tears in the eighth inning when we went ahead. I was in shock when we lost the lead and then Francisco stepping up, and incredible moment…I’m just so thrilled to be part of this team.

The bottom of the eighth inning was tough considering how Diaz coughed up a three-run lead, giving the Braves four runs, with three out in an attempted comeback. However, Lindor’s words of “Keep fighting” motivated the team to fight one step more strongly in their incredible comeback story.

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill said that Francisco Lindor’s words encouraged and energized the whole team, “Keep fighting. It’s all we’ve been doing all year.” Indeed, Lindor carried the team on his back throughout the season and his word weighed more than anything in that moment.

Despite his ailing back issues, Lindor’s HR blasted off over the center field at Truist Park, giving the Mets their much-needed two-run home run to secure the postseason deal. The players jumped on the field from the dugout as they each celebrated the victory in their own unique ways.

It felt like the whole week the emotions have gone like that. It was a great ballgame. They gave everything they had and we did as well. It was just a pitch here and there. I think that is the way the game was won today. It was just one more pitch than the other team.

Brandon Nimmo said the atmosphere after the HR was “on fire”. “It was so electric,” but soon after Lindor’s hit “it went absolutely, dead quite” before exploding once again. Megill praised his leadership saying, “His leadership is unreal. We follow him.”

Edwin Diaz on the other hand, corrected himself promptly by taking back the game after his meltdown. He threw 40 pitches saying he had to fight as the whole team was fighting similarly.

This team gave me so much and they trusted me. I didn’t want to be the guy who screwed up. I want to fight for this team, for these guys … when I saw Lindor hit the homer, I said, ‘I have to go out and fight for the team.’

While it has been an “uphill fight” for the Mets, they secured the playoff position that they’ve dreamed of like others since the start of 2024 regular season games. It’s been a wild ride for the team, and now after all the celebrations, the teams are waiting to start the playoff fight.
