“KKR found another Gayle in Narine”- Fans over the moon as Sunil Narine smacks maiden IPL century against Rajasthan Royals

Sunil Narine scored his maiden career century in all formats on 16th April against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eden Gardens. His innings saw smart batting by the 35-year-old all-rounder, who hit a combined 19 boundaries. 

In typical Sunil Narine fashion, the innings saw the promoted spinner attacking the pacers from the very first ball. The southpaw scored 13 boundaries and six sixes, scoring 109 off 56. He was finally dismissed by Trent Boult, who bowled a yorker into the block hole. As Narine walked back, the Kiwi bowler ran up to him and congratulated him for his performance.

Narine has now become the third Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter to score a century. Brendon McCullum scored a century in the very first IPL match and Venkatesh Iyer scored one exactly a year ago. This is also Narine’s first century in any format, taking 411 innings across all formats. 

Sunil Narine praised for maiden century 

Sunil Narine received many praises by fans across social media for his incredible ton. Many fans were awestruck by his incredible batting performance, which showed great timing. Some claimed he was better than many Indian all-rounders as well, while one joked how he could win both Orange and Purple cap.

Thanks to this century, Narine joins an elite club with Shane Watson and Rohit Sharma. They are now the only players to score a century and take a hat-trick in the IPL. His century, along with some late hittings by Rinku Singh, took KKR to 223/6 in their 20 overs. RR started off well, with Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting 20 off 8 but he was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora.
