‘Suryakumar Yadav grabbed the opportunity with both hands’: Zaheer Khan

Suryakumar Yadav grabbed all the headlines with his dream debut for the national side during the T20I series against England. He got off the mark in international cricket with a scintillating six off ace speedster Jofra Archer. Yadav also won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his brilliant knock of 57 runs in 31 deliveries in that game.
Former India cricketer and Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer also hailed Suryakumar Yadav for the way he made his international debut. Khan mentioned Surya thoroughly deserved a national call as he has been consistent over the years in IPL and domestic cricket.
“With Surya, what stands out is his consistency in the last three IPLs, and domestic circuit as well. He’s someone who thoroughly deserved this chance and has worked very hard, and at times you’ve to be patient, at times opportunity doesn’t come even when you’re performing,” Zaheer said during an interaction Twitter Space With Zak organised by Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians has given various international players to team India over the years. This includes the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya brothers and now Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Zaheer Khan mentioned that it’s a proud feeling that your players are representing India at the highest level, doing so well.
The southpaw further leapt praises for Suryakumar Yadav as the latter remained patient for his chance for a long time. Zaheer also added that SKY’s dream came true and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
“That’s something that was happening with Surya and he managed himself very well and people around him also have been telling him that you’ve to be patient and just keep doing what you’ve been doing and it showed in his approach when he started.
“It was like a dream coming true and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, and showed how determined he was to make it to that level, and win matches for India,” Zaheer added.
“It’s a proud feeling that your players are representing India at the highest level, doing so well. All the players that we’ve, all of them have contributed and Surya has been waiting for his opportunity for the longest time,” the former left-arm speedster added.
