Tammy Abraham joins Serie A club AS Roma on a five-year deal
Tammy Abraham has signed with Serie A side AS Roma for a fee of £34m on a five-year contract. Abraham has agreed to the terms of the move and will now work under the management of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
The striker has completed the move from Chelsea and will now ply his trade for Roma. Abraham will stay with the Serie A Club for five years until the 2026 season. Chelsea has a £68 million buyback option on Abraham, which may be exercised in the summer of 2023, while Abraham will wear the No 9 shirt for Roma.
After the Blues parted company with Frank Lampard, who had trust in Abraham, the striker was unable to hold onto a starting place. Last season, the 23-year-old was Chelsea’s joint highest goal scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, but his first-team appearances were limited once head coach Thomas Tuchel took over in January.
He entered the Chelsea academy when he was eight years old, progressed through the divisions, and made his senior debut in 2016. During his tenure with the club, he was loaned out to various English clubs like Bristol City, Swansea City, and Aston Villa, where he impressed Lampard enough to be named the club’s number one marksman.
With his transfer to Roma, Abraham joins Rui Patricio, Eldor Shomurodov, and Matias Vina as the club’s fourth summer acquisition.
Atalanta and Arsenal were also interested in Abraham, but it was always Chelsea’s priority to move him to a foreign team.
“Despite still being very young, with a huge amount of potential to keep improving, Tammy has already played more than 200 games in his career and scored over 100 goals – and won a number of major trophies too.”
“Choosing to leave the Premier League, and the club he grew up at, demonstrates very clearly just how much he believes in this opportunity to develop his own game and show what he can do at Roma,” said Tiago Pinto, Roma’s General Manager.
Massive Honor to wear No.9 for AS Roma: Tammy Abraham
Tammy Abraham is honored to wear the No.9 jersey for AS Roma and stated that the club made their intentions very clear to sign him.
He also claimed that he is eager to win titles with the club and help them reach glory.
“You can sense when a club really wants you – and Roma made their interest clear immediately. Roma is a club that deserves to be fighting for titles and trophies. I’ve had the experience of winning major trophies and I want to be in those competitions again – so I want to help this team to achieve that and get to the level where Roma should be.
“It’s a massive honor to be the No. 9 at this club and I just can’t wait to get started and to help the team,” said Tammy Abraham.
