New details about the early months of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship have emerged just days before the couple is reportedly set to tie the knot over the July 4 weekend.

According to a Daily Mail report citing multiple unnamed sources, Kelce was not initially looking for a serious relationship when he and Swift first started spending time together in 2023. The report claims the Kansas City Chiefs star was still seeing other people before their romance became public and that the pair did not become exclusive until September 2023.

The insider claimed, “He wasn’t looking for anything serious – that’s for sure. He was dating other people at the same time before they went public. He was definitely still dating around (in the beginning).”

The report further alleges that Kelce never expected his widely discussed attempt to give Swift his phone number via a friendship bracelet at her Kansas City Eras Tour stop in July 2023 to lead to anything significant.

One insider shared that Kelce viewed the friendship bracelet gesture more as a “joke” and “didn’t think it was going to go anywhere.” Multiple sources also claimed that the NFL star was slow to respond to Swift’s text messages during the early stages of their relationship.

“(He wasn’t avoiding her), but you’re not going to be pressed onto something if you’re not looking for something serious,” a source expressed. “He just wasn’t pursuing her heavily. He’s a football player!”

Another insider added, “Travis wasn’t looking for anything serious, and once you get into the Taylor world, it’s instantly serious.” Page Six reported that representatives for Swift and Kelce did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the claims.

Travis Kelce publicly revealed his first attempt to connect with Taylor Swift during an episode of his New Heights podcast in July 2023. He said he attended her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, hoping to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but was unable to meet her after the show.

“She doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Kelce explained at the time. “I took it personal.”

Reports later emerged that the pair had been quietly spending time together before their relationship became public. They announced their engagement in August 2025 after two years of dating.

Swift and Kelce are now preparing for their wedding over the July 4 weekend. Page Six previously reported that a rehearsal dinner is scheduled for July 2 at Madison Square Garden, followed by a larger celebration on July 3, expected to host between 1,000 and 2,000 guests. Celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed is reportedly coordinating the event after working with the couple for several months.
